About KS3 Spanish
KS3 Spanish develops listening, speaking, reading and writing through everyday topics: family, school, free time, food and where you live. By Year 9, pupils are expected to use present, past and future tenses and to give opinions with reasons.
Spanish is often seen as easy to pronounce, which helps early on. The harder parts are verb endings, the two verbs for "to be" (ser and estar), gender, adjective agreement and the tenses. Pupils who miss these early find later units confusing.
Many schools start Spanish in Year 7 with no prior knowledge, so the pace is quick. One-to-one lessons give extra speaking time that is hard to get in a full class, and steady vocabulary learning prepares the ground for GCSE Spanish.

KS3 Spanish tutoring questions
Is Spanish easier than French?
Many pupils find Spanish pronunciation simpler, but it has its own challenges, such as verb endings and ser versus estar. Either language is manageable with regular practice.
Can a tutor help if Spanish is new to my child?
Yes. Beginners are welcome. We start with sounds, greetings and simple sentences and move at your child’s pace.
How does KS3 Spanish lead into GCSE?
GCSE Spanish needs a wider vocabulary and confident use of several tenses. Learning these steadily through Years 7 to 9 makes GCSE far less of a jump.
How often should my child have lessons?
Once a week is common. Languages benefit from little and often, so short daily vocabulary practice between lessons helps too, and the tutor can set it.
