Chemistry by level
How we teach Chemistry
GCSE Chemistry starts with atomic structure, bonding and the periodic table, then moves to quantitative chemistry, rates, energy changes and organic chemistry. The maths often catches students out: balancing equations and moles are where marks are won or lost.
A-Level Chemistry splits into physical, inorganic and organic strands. Students meet equilibria, kinetics, thermodynamics and reaction mechanisms, and need to write clear explanations as well as solve multi-step calculations.
Our tutors use the shared whiteboard to work through equations and mechanisms line by line, so your child sees every step. They then set practice questions, and the weekly test shows whether the method has stuck.
How Nerdely works
Tell us what your child needs
Subject, level, exam board and the times that suit you. It takes a couple of minutes.
We find and interview a tutor
We shortlist tutors who teach that subject and level, interview them ourselves and match the right one.
Lessons are booked in
Live, one-to-one, 50-minute lessons in our online classroom, with video, chat and a shared whiteboard.

Homework, quizzes and weekly test scores in your account, plus a short report every month.
Chemistry tutoring questions
Do you tutor Combined Science chemistry as well?
Yes. Chemistry makes up a third of Combined Science, and a tutor can focus on those topics. Separate GCSE Chemistry and A-Level Chemistry are covered too.
My child struggles with chemistry calculations. Can you help?
Yes. Tutors break moles, concentrations and yield into small steps and practise them until the method feels automatic.
Is A-Level Chemistry a big step up?
Yes. It adds more theory, more mechanisms and more demanding maths. Starting tutoring early in Year 12 helps students keep pace.
Do tutors cover required practicals?
They cover the method, results and evaluation questions that appear in written papers, rather than the hands-on work done at school.
Which exam boards do you match?
AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and WJEC Eduqas. Tutors use the specification and past papers for your child’s board.
