How we teach History
Key Stage 3 history takes pupils through the medieval world, the Tudors and Stuarts, empire, industry and the twentieth century. The aim is to understand cause and change, not just memorise dates.
GCSE History is made up of thematic, period and depth studies chosen by each exam board and school. Students must recall detailed knowledge, analyse sources and write extended answers that reach a judgement. Many lose marks through structure, not knowledge.
At A-Level, essays are longer and more demanding, and students engage with historians’ interpretations. Our tutors practise planning, building paragraphs around argument, and using evidence precisely. They match the topics your school is studying and the exam board.

History tutoring questions
Will the tutor know our GCSE topics?
Schools choose different options, so tell us your topics and exam board. We match a tutor who can teach them.
My child knows the facts but loses marks. Why?
Often it is the structure. Tutors teach how to answer each question type, including source questions and extended essays, so knowledge turns into marks.
Can you help with A-Level coursework?
Yes. Tutors can help students plan the independent investigation and sharpen their argument, though the work remains the student’s own.
How does a tutor help with remembering dates and detail?
Through timelines, quizzes and regular recall. The weekly test shows what has not stuck.
