How we teach French

At Key Stage 3, pupils learn core vocabulary and grammar: present tense, simple past and future, and the basics of gender and agreement. Regular practice matters more than long sessions.

GCSE French tests four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, each worth equal marks. Students need a solid bank of vocabulary across set themes, accurate verb forms and the confidence to speak without notes.

A-Level adds literature or film study, cultural topics and an independent research project, with discussion and essays in French. Live one-to-one lessons give lots of speaking time. Tutors also practise listening and writing, and give corrections that help your child stop repeating mistakes.

French tutoring questions

Is the tutor a native speaker?

Tutors vary. We choose for strong French and clear teaching, and can tell you more about the tutor we match.

How do lessons help with speaking exams?

Your child speaks throughout, practises likely role plays and photo cards, and receives feedback on pronunciation and accuracy.

Can you help with vocabulary learning?

Yes. Tutors set short vocabulary quizzes and use spaced recall so words move into long-term memory.

Do you tutor beginners?

Yes. Tutors can start from where your child is at Key Stage 3, or catch up before GCSE.
